- C-17 Conducts Flight Test With Biofuel.
- EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. (AFNS): The Air Force's ongoing alternative fuels certification efforts reached a new milestone Aug. 27 when a C-17 Globemaster III from here flew on all engines using jet fuel blended with a combination of traditional petroleum-based fuel, or JP-8, biofuel derived in part from animal fat, and synthetic fuel derived from coal.
- Laser-Based Missile Defense for Helicopters Being Developed.
- ScienceDaily: Protecting helicopters in combat from heat-seeking missiles is the goal of new laser technology created at the University of Michigan and Omni Sciences, Inc., which is a U-M spin-off company.

- Electric Airplane Flies Over Paris.
- The newest electric aircraft to take flight is a tiny airplane from a big airplane company. The Cri-Cri, developed by Airbus' parent company, EADS, made its first flight Thursday at Le Bourget airport near Paris.
- Indian Govt Clears $5-Billion Airplane Purchases.
- Boeing bags bulk of aircraft sought by LCCs. The government has cleared the acquisition of 46 new aircraft worth over Rs 19,000 crore by three low-cost carriers: SpiceJet, IndiGo and Jet Lite. The new planes will arrive in a staggered delivery schedule beginning November. The acquisitions were cleared on August 30 at a meeting of a civil aviation ministry empowered committee.
- NASA Flies First Drone Over Hurricane.
- Hurricane Earl is waning as it moves northward up the east coast of the United States. Some of the first researchers to notice the weakening had front row seats, watching the eye of the hurricane via drone flights.
- Cargo Plane Crashes Near Dubai Motorway Killing Two.
- A cargo plane has crashed after take-off near a motorway in Dubai, killing two crew members aboard, officials say. The plane, operated by the delivery company United Parcel Service (UPS), crashed near the Emirates Road.
- Boeing Conducts Remote 787 Testing.
- EVERETT, Wash. (PRNewswire): Four of the five Boeing (NYSE: (BA)) 787 flight test airplanes are conducting remote test operations this week. ZA005 continues testing from its base of operations in Seattle.
- BAe Lightning Almost Ready to Fly.
- The British have invaded Bay St. Louis, Miss. There, a team of British and American engineers and technicians are working to restore a British Aerospace Lightning back to flying condition. If they’re successful, it will be one of only four flying in the world, and the only example in the United States.
- Gulfstream G650 Reaches Mach 0.995.
- SAVANNAH, Ga.: Gulfstream Aerospace Corp. announced today that its ultra-long-range, ultra-large-cabin Gulfstream G650 recently reached Mach 0.995 as part of its 1,800-hour flight-test program.
